About our Degree Programs

M.S. and Ph.D. graduate students develop course programs in consultation with an advisory commitee. A minimum of 24 semester hours and successful completion and defense of a thesis is required to earn a M.S. degree. The Advisory committee outlines the course requirements for a Ph.D. Most Ph.D. students must demonstrate knowledge of plant genetics, plant physiology, biochemistry, ecology and plant biology before taking written and oral qualifying examinations. The Ph.D. student must complete and defend a dissertation in one of the areas of seed biology that makes a scholarly contribution to our knowledge of the field.

Graduate teaching and research assistantships (fellowships) are available in the Seed Biology program on a competitive basis. The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is required for all entering graduate students and students should have a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average as an undergraduate. Students with English as a second language are required to have a minimum score of 550 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
